It is well known that today the transition to digital is increasingly evident and rapid; therefore, companies, if they want to continue to appear competitive in the market and at the forefront, must provide their HR resources with the right skills to face Digital Transformation in the best possible way. This refers to the set of transformations of the various business activities, thanks to the adoption of digital strategies and solutions that lead to an increase in productivity and efficiency.

HR and its key role in Digital Transformation

To be implemented in the best way, Digital Transformation requires the adoption of a widespread mindset, as well as the sharing by the HR sector of a series of skills that foster innovation and the improvement of activities through the involvement of internal resources, stakeholder relationships and the supply chain.

By digitizing human resources management processes, a more defined picture can be obtained of the human capital available and above all of the skills that are already present or that need to be developed, in order to innovate or improve one's business model and, more generally, the company reality in which one operates.

HR Tech skills for digital transformation

Among the most important HR Tech skills for moving toward Digital Transformation are knowledge of one's business, data analysis skills, project and change management skills, and the development of internal communication skills.

Knowing one's business in depth is important for identifying which areas can benefit from the digital solutions available. Project management skills are especially valuable during the planning phase and the definition of an action plan.

Once this is done, training programs will be created to equip resources with the right skills to tackle Digital Transformation in the best possible way. This often involves the revision of one's corporate culture and the acceptance of changes in some dynamics. In these cases, a propensity for flexibility, innovation and a good spirit of adaptation prove to be winning and impactful elements.

Managing change effectively

The Change Management, that is, the ability to manage change, is therefore one of the skills that HR managers will find themselves learning. The objective of this approach is to find solutions and strategies that lead to an effective and gradual change, which is accepted by all company resources and does not alter the balance in a disruptive way.

If on the one hand the HR sector is asked to put certain methods into practice, on the other hand the staff must also contribute to change by keeping a communication channel open and providing feedback.

Internal communication and HR digitalization

As in all business sectors, in this case too communication must be clear and transparent. HR must ensure that the move toward digital is always accompanied by proper internal communication and the involvement of all resources, especially those that may struggle the most to adapt to new rhythms.

The objectives of Digital Transformation must be specified and well understood. Accompanying business activities with training meetings, periodic informative newsletters or update meetings can be a useful way to spread a shared mindset.

Data-driven HR: the role of technology

Having a tech-oriented mindset also means knowing how to rely on the new technological opportunities that the transition to digital offers. Today more and more companies are investing in artificial intelligence solutions and data-driven approaches also in the areas of training and recruiting. Basing decisions on objective and organized data according to the principles of data quality allows time to be saved and efficiency and productivity to be increased. Among the various solutions we find People Analytics technologies, the use of HRIS and HRMS software platforms to simplify personnel data management, or the adoption of e-learning systems for the training side.

A continuous challenge for the future

In the future, Digital Transformation will bring with it new changes, new opportunities and new challenges. Developing new skills, both in terms of hard and soft skills, will prove to be a certainly useful and winning move in order to keep up with the times and remain competitive in one's market.
