During the spring of 2023, Goldman Sachs estimated that generative AI would make the current tasks of 300 million workers obsolete. However, the current outlook is decidedly more optimistic: AI will not only not eliminate jobs, but will help create new ones. This is provided that people learn to use it, leveraging its opportunities and defusing its risks. With 34% of tasks already automated and 75% of companies planning to introduce AI by 2027, according to the World Economic Forum, it is clear that AI is redefining the way we work, driving progress toward efficiency and productivity. In this context, developing an AI Mindset becomes crucial for modern organizations.
A new mindset for organizations
The AI mindset is essentially a mindset open to human-machine collaboration. AI is not considered a threat but a tool to amplify human capabilities. This shift in perspective requires the spread of technical skills, but above all, the promotion of a culture that sees technology as an ally for progress.
How we use AI today
AI is already transforming several aspects of the world of work, from automating repetitive tasks to advanced data collection and analysis. These tools allow companies to personalize business strategies, optimize processes, and make more informed and strategic decisions. Some examples of how AI is already being used in organizations today are:
Automation: For example, AI enables efficient CV screening, eliminating bias and streamlining selection processes.
Data Collection and Analysis: AI facilitates customer segmentation, anomaly detection, and predictive analysis, contributing to more informed business decisions.
Developing an AI mindset in organizations
The transition to an AI-oriented organization represents one of the most complex change management challenges in history. This process requires not only familiarity with new technologies but also effective management of resistance to change, identifying and involving internal leaders capable of guiding the transformation.
Strategies for an effective AI Mindset
Adopting the AI Mindset means establishing clear accountability in human-AI interactions and identifying how AI solutions can solve current problems or create new opportunities: listening to and defining the needs of people and the business becomes essential to successfully implementing AI. Two key steps to encourage the spread of an effective AI Mindset are:
Create a policy: it is essential to create a clear policy that defines responsibility in interactions between AI and human users in order to maintain high trust in the tool.
Identify ambassadors: AI champions should be identified and trained within the organization who can act as AI ambassadors, promoting its use and supporting colleagues in the transition.
HR, an increasingly central role
HR plays a key role in guiding the mindset shift, promoting knowledge of AI, mitigating fears related to its adoption, and supporting an ongoing upskilling process. By using AI, HR can also promote diversity, personalize the learning experience, and support the development of career plans.
AI-Friendly climate: reassures people that AI represents an opportunity, not a threat, to their jobs.
Training: demystifies AI through training programs that illustrate its benefits and how it works.
Adoption strategy: develops a strategy starting from an analysis of business needs, to identify where AI can be most useful.
Lead by example: actively uses AI in HR, sharing use cases and successes to promote trust and adoption.
A transformation to face together
Adopting an AI Mindset represents a milestone on the path toward innovation and sustainable growth. Preparing for this revolution requires a joint commitment from leadership, HR, and every individual, aiming to create an environment in which technology and human talent integrate harmoniously to address the challenges of the future of work.
